Ways You Can Help Pt 1

According to the article “Threats to Florida’s Biodiversity” by Denise Rocus and Frank J Mazzotti, University of Florida, 1996:

• Advocate for Florida’s wildlife to state and federal representatives
• Support efforts of organizations working on maintaining or revitalizing the ecosystem
• Look into volunteer activities
• Visit state parks and learn about the local ecosystems
• Become informed about local concerns by attending public hearings over land and water use
• Drive safely along highways and keep alert for wildlife
• Protect and support native plants and animals in your own neighborhood

According to the article “Impact of Overpopulation in South Florida: Threats to Wildlife and Ecosystem Balance” by Emily Miller, University of Miami, 2024:

• Support the organization Pelican Harbor Seabird Station (PHSS) in their efforts to rehabilitate injured and at-risk wildlife in Florida by donating or volunteering
• Keep an eye out for animals at risk and turn them into the proper organizations when they are in need of help with detail about where and how they were found in order to better help organizations determine areas of risk for wildlife
